Neurology Unit
The Neurology Unit consists of Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Physiotherapists who work closely together in an interdisciplinary team that specialise in the assessment and treatment of patients who have suffered a stroke or head injury, or who have other neurological conditions.
Neurology services includes:
Assessment of each client’s abilities and difficulties, goal setting and development of treatment plans that will help to guide the client towards the most independent lifestyle possible. Each client with their families is considered an integral part of the team and is expected (as far as possible) to actively goal set and participate in his/her own treatment programme.
Treatment may include:
- Functional activity training
- Prescription of appropriate assistive devices and mobility equipment
- Aquatherapy
- Functional Electrical Stimulation
- Home and work visits where appropriate
- Carer training
- Group treatments
- Outings
- Augmentative Alternative Communication Systems
- Vitalstim Therapy
