FUNCTIONAL ELECTRICAL STIMULATION (FES) CLINIC
Functional Electrical Stimulation, or FES as it is better known, is the integrated use of electrical currents, to assist in the activity and functioning of partially paralysed muscles. FES is applied using the Odstock Dropped Foot Stimulator (ODFS), while Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation (TES) is applied using the MicroStim 2 channel exercise stimulator. These stimulators have been developed by Odstock Medical Limited, a UK based company which falls within the National Health Service of England. See www.odstockmedical.com The most common form of FES is that used in walking assistance of the Stroke patient, who has a dropped foot (the inability to sufficiently clear the ground when stepping). The stimulation can however be used to assist any muscle group during walking or standing.

Spinal Cord Injury Interventions include:
- TES Exercise therapy in Rehab and at home.
- TES and Botox™ program.
- FES screening for appropriateness of treatment and intervention.
- FES Set up and education in its use at home and in the work environment.
- Regular review and objective recording of results and efficacy.
- FES assisted walking, rowing and cycling.
